A few CBU Seniors share from their experiences about how they've grown in their time at CBU spiritually as well as challenge students continuing with their education on how to get the most out of their time in school.

Singer-Songwriter, Author, and Record Producer Charlie Peacock comes to CBU to speak in the Christ and Culture Lecture Series. Charlie touches on his experiences in the music industry and his journey to becoming a culture maker for the Kingdom of God.

CBU Director of Campus Minstries, Brian Zunigha talks from Isaiah 6 about God's holiness, how by being His followers we are also made holy, and what our proper response to his reaching out to us should be.

Ronny Roa, Generate Pastor at Crossroads Church in Corona, CA talks to the CBU student body about claiming the promises of Christ in their lives, walking in the path that God has planned , and becoming lion chasers not lion tamers.

John continues the second part of his message from Colossians. This week starting in Colossians 3 and looking at how Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of the Gospel and the importance of understanding that concept as authentic followers of Christ.

Jay Stovall and Aimee Sayre share a piece of the story of their time at CBU, along with the stories of many other students through the videos shown. Each story is unique, but they all display how God has been working in the lives of these students.

In his Message, Brian Zunigha, Director of Campus Ministries at CBU, teaches on how to finish the right race, which is the Biblical command to make disciples, by going through the great commission, Matthew 28:16-20.

Bryan Clay, 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist in the Men's Decathlon, shares his story of giving himself entirely to God, and where God has brought him since. Micah McDaniel, CBU Sports Information Director, conducts the interview.

Dr. Micah Parker, CBU Athletic Director, challenges students to praise God through difficult times and allow God to walk us through the valley through Proverbs 3:5-7, 1 Peter 5:7, and some of the stories from his own life.

In his message, Dr. Todd Bates, Assistant Professor of Philosophy spoke about the two greatest commandments: loving God and loving your neighbor.  He then challenges students to live their purpose right now in the present by obeying these commandments.

In his message based on 1 Corinthians 10:31, John Montgomery, Dean of Spiritual Life at California Baptist University speaks on the glory of God and challenges students to live daily to give God the glory He demands.

In his message, Kneeland Brown, Director of Diversity Initiatives at Azusa Pacific University speaks on 1 Samuel 3:1-10.  He tells of his experience of growing up in church and never paying attention to what God is doing around him.  Kneeland realized that living his purpose started with listening to God’s voice, similar to when Samuel obeyed God’s voice in the passage.  He then challenges students to listen to God through His word, instead of trying to do things our own way.

 

In his message, Michael Franzese, former mob boss for the Colombo crime family in New York talks about how God changed his life in the midst of imprisonment, abandonment, and loneliness.  He challenges students to repent from sin and turn to Christ regardless of what they have done in the past.

 

In his message, Dr. Jeff Iorg, President of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary presents what it means to be saved from the present evil age.  He then warns students to never turn away from proclaiming the gospel, even if it creates relational tension with others.

In his message, John Montgomery, Dean of Spiritual Life gives a Biblical account of Jesus’ return by referencing the book of Revelation as his main passage.  He also challenges students to “Embrace the eternal, instead of the temporary” as they anticipate the return of Jesus, the King.

In his message, Brian Zunigha, Director of Campus Ministries at California Baptist University spoke about Jesus as a “Stone of Stumbling and the Rock of Offense.”  Brian claims that Jesus was obedient to God the Father and in doing so caused offense among many.  He then challenges students to be followers of Christ even if they find adversity with others.

John Montgomery, Dean of Spiritual Life at California Baptist University and Brian Zunigha, Director of Campus Ministries at California Baptist University, laid out the characteristics of Jesus Christ as the “Son of God, Son of Man.”  This message is the first of three messages for SeekWeek with “Jesus” as the theme.

In her message, Kay Warren—Author, Speaker and International HIV/AIDS Advocate from Saddleback Church references Mark 8:34 as she challenges students to live their lives in full surrender to God by taking up their cross and following him.

In his message, California Baptist University’s Assistant Director of Mobilization, Jared Dobbins references Luke 14:1-24 as he addresses the issues of the heart.  He teaches that Jesus wants to expose the self-righteous behavior we sometimes display on the outside, in order to expose our heart.  Jared urges students to place their affections on Christ and as a result, we will be truly driven to worship and serve Him.  

In her message, Romanita Hairston, Vice President of U.S. Programs at World Vision tells of her personal experiences in the issues of justice. She shares her discovery of Biblical hope found in the midst of an unjust world.  She challenges students to seek justice in the world and to share the love of Christ to people who have lost hope.

In his message, California Baptist University’s Dean of Spiritual Life, John Montgomery talks about forgiveness.  He references Matthew 18:21-35 which shows believers how important it is to forgive, just as Jesus has forgiven us.  He then discusses the hindrances that stop us from forgiving and how we can overcome them in order to truly forgive.

In his message on 12.04.09, Greg Koukl of Stand to Reason shares his testimony of how God transformed his life.  He explains that walking with our savior is not an easy life but it is a life that is worth the difficult experiences we may face. He then presents four hard realities of spiritual growth.

In his message on 12.02.09, Director of Campus Ministries, Brian Zunigha discusses CBU's continuing theme of "living with purpose" while using Philippians 1 as a backdrop for his sermon. Three main points made by Mr. Zunigha are faith in God, rejoicing in the Gospel and living Christ-like.

In his message on 11.11.09, Dr. Micah G. Parker, California Baptist University's Director of Athletics communicates his thoughts and words on the idea of one simple word: trust. Coming from a sports background, one can be sure there will a lot of sporting analogies in this positive yet realistic message to the CBU student body.

In his message on 10.30.09, Pastor John Thomas, hailing from South Africa less than 15 miles from the southern most part of Africa, shares his insights and knowledge about his calling to help missionaries and the poor. Mr. Thomas' passion for the poor challenges CBU's student body to continue to strive towards helping those in our community who have very little.

In his message on 10.28.09, CBU's Dean of Spiritual Life, John Montgomery, shares how important it is that one professing to be a Christian, not only believe in eternal life in heaven for the saved, but also eternal punishment in hell for those unrepentant of their sin. Today's primary passage is Luke 16, the story of Lazarus.

In his message on 10.21.09, Pastor Dave Gibbons of Newsong Church located in Tustin, California shares a message of this generation and how it should learn to truly worship God; not just through music and service, but most of all through the reading of His Word.

In his message on 10.16.09, Chaplain Norris Burkes shares stories spanning his career as a chaplain in the United States Army. Chaplain Burkes defines the difference between pastors and chaplains and helps Cal Baptist students realize that they are called to go out and share the Gospel throughout the world.

In his message on 10.14.09, Crosspoint Baptist Church of Baton Rogue, Louisiana's senior pastor Landon Dowden expositly presents Colossians 1 to Cal Baptist's faculty, staff and student body. As already noted, Colossians 1 is the primary passage for this week's sermon.

In his message on 10.09.09, Threads Media editor Michael Kelley concludes his three-part series entitled "Walk Deep" by teaching CBU's students how to "wrestle" with God. Today's primary passage used is Genesis 32:22-32 which talks about Jacob wrestling with God.

In his message on 10.07.09, Threads Media editor Michael Kelley continues his three-part series entitled "Walk Deep" by inviting CBU students to read 'deep' into Isaiah 58, which is the passage primarily used for this sermon. Mr. Kelley points out that the church should not only be known what it is against but also what it is for.

Seek Week Fall 2009 -

In his message on 10.05.09, Threads Media editor Michael Kelley delves into Genesis 5 and covers what would normally be considered a boring subject: genealogy. It begins his three-part series entitled "Walk Deep" that challenges students to grow deeper in their walk with the Lord during this Seek Week.

In his message on 09.30.09, Claude Hickman of Live Life on Purpose and The Traveling Team ministries explains the history of the Great Commission and how many of Christianity's mobilization teams got their start. Using these examples as jumping points, Claude demonstrates how we can use resources around us to fulfill the Great Commission.

In his message on 09.16.09, CBU's Dean of Spirtual Life, John Montgomery opens up the Chapel year with an in-depth study of Hebrews 12:1-3. In this study, students learn that our Christian ancestors have blazed a trail and set forth a standard which we all should strive to obtain: enduring the race set before us looking unto Jesus for strength and hope.

In their messages on 04.01.09, CBU students Holly Strand, Tim Cahill and Cara Marsile share their personal stories regarding God's prominence in their lives. While each student has a differing story in how they came "out of the cave and into the light" they all share a common bond: sinners saved by grace.

In his message on 03.27.09, Lifeway's Michael Kelley discusses what a Christian's disposition towards the slowing U.S. economy should be and why it should Biblically be that way. Mr. Kelley uses Luke chapter 16 for today's message.

In his message on 03.25.09, pastor Curtis Jones of Living Proof ministries shares the story of 2 Timothy 1:6-7 in hopes of reaching the CBU student body with answers he never got while attending a Baptist university. This passage uses 2 Timothy as its main passage for today.

In his message on 03.11.09, CBU's Dean of Spiritual Life, John Montgomery describes in detail just what it means to follow after Christ. John's details on Jesus' death and its meaning in for the world can be a bit graphic during this sermon however it must be noted that this depiction is more than likely on the lighter end of the subject. John uses multiple Bible passages today.

Christ & Culture Lecture Series-
In his message on 03.06.09, Dr. David S. Dockery, president of Union University located in Jackson, Tennessee, concludes CBU's Christ & Culture Lecture Series by communicating his view of where denominations should be today and whether or not they even matter at this point in our culture. This concludes Dr. Dockery's lecture series.

Christ & Culture Lecture Series-
In his message on 03.04.09, Dr. David S. Dockery, president of Union University located in Jackson, Tennessee, begins CBU's Christ & Culture Lecture Series by communicating his view of how denominations have been broken down and where they should go from here. Dr. Dockery's lecture will conclude this Friday.

In his message on 02.27.09, Dennis Jernigan proclaims the lovingkindess God has shared in his life to CBU body. In this 45 minute presentation of song and sermon, Mr. Jernigan challenges the students to know, understand and repent towards Jesus, acknowledging Him as their Savior from hell and their wrong-doings.

In her message on 02.18.09, softball Olympian and 3-time Gold Medalist Leah O'Brien-Amico tells the story of how a seemingly great life is not all it seems to be. Her story tells the journey of one supposed Christian girl growing up only to find out that her actions did not speak the same message as her mouth because her foundation was not on The Rock. The main Bible passage used today is Matthew 7:24-29.

In his message on 02.13.09, Claude Hickman addresses the CBU body about the importance of reaching out to the community around us as well as across the globe. Mr. Hickman stresses the importance of God's name being proclaimed throughout the earth and that His will be done, not our own.

Seek Week-
In his message on 02.11.09, Dr. Walter Price, senior pastor of The Fellowship in the Pass church in Beaumont, California, addresses the importance in understanding the true Gospel in its unfiltered form. Dr. Price uses Acts 2 to demonstrate how the Gospel as portrayed in Luke 24 is put into action by the Church Founders.

In his message on 02.09.09, Pastor Rick Holland of Grace Community Church located in Sun Valley, CA, leads off CBU's Seek Week with a message concerning the very heart and nature of God. Using Jonathan Edwards "Sinner in the Hands of an Angry God" sermon as a jumping point, Pastor Holland leads the CBU body in a clear study of Romans 5:6-11, which serves as today's Biblical passage.

In her message on 02.04.09, CBU's only female professor of Christian Studies, Dr. Amy Stumpf brings her trademark ukulele, a 'can-do' attitude and some very special guests to the attention of the student body by addressing the very serious topic of human trafficking during CBU's "Justice Week." Dr. Stumpf stays within the book of Ephesians throughout her sermon.

In his message on 01.21.09, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary doctor of theological history, Dr. Tom Nettles recounts the greatest purpose one can have is to be called by the Father before the foundations of the world to suffer for Him in grace. The primary Biblical passage of this message is 2 Timothy 1:8-14.

In his message on 01.14.09, The Lamb's Fellowship of Murrieta pastor, Ryan Sharp, conveys the answer of God as the ultimate and only source of truth. In the process of this explanation, Mr. Sharp answers the chief end of man, what our purpose is on this earth and finally just how our culture today has been skewed regarding things of God's Word.

In his message on 01.09.09, Saddleback Church's teaching pastor, Tom Holladay, discusses three "growth stoppers" and three "growth starters" to the Christian life. Mr. Holladay's major passage of interest is that of the parable of the seed and the sower and is used extensively in this sermon.

In his message on 01.07.09, CBU's Dean of Spiritual Life, John Montgomery divulges much information in proving the validity to the Bible's claim as "ultimate truth" in a manner worth listening to. Mr. Montgomery uses many passages of the Bible to convey this message; however, his main point can be driven home through the reading of 2 Timothy 3:16.

In his message on 12.03.08, Michael Kelley discusses King Herod's life and reign in the midst of Christ's coming. This sermon illustrates how improperly placed priorities can devastate one's life and further complicate situations. Mr. Kelley challenges CBU's students to take charge of their lives and live in regards to a high calling.

In his message on 11.19.08, CBU's Dean of Spiritual Life, John Montgomery, discusses the nature of Jesus' being and His very meaning for our lives. Mr. Montgomery uses Colossians 1:15-17 as a reference point for the recipient of this message.

In his message on 11.14.08, Tony Dockery, a CBU trustee board member and pastor of St. Stephens Church in Riverside, CA, challenges the men of CBU to "Be Da Man." Mr. Dockery expands on this subject using Psalms 1 as his main text and strongly encourages the men to be girded with their Sword at all times.

In his message on 11.12.08, CBU's Brian Zunigha tells the story of how we as Christians have lost sight of the true meaning of Christmas and have succumbed to the secular society's meaning. Mr. Zunigha expands on this topic using many passages of Scripture.

In her message on 11.05.08, Becky White paints the tale of her life, one in which she had to learn the true definition and meaning of love. In her heart to heart with the women of CBU, Becky explains how knowing and understanding the nature of God gives her comfort no matter the circumstances. The text used in today's podcast is Ephesians 1.

In his message on 10.29.08, Tony Wood of Crossroads Christian Church explores the duality of today's "Christian"; one moment proclaiming His name with our mouths only to denounce it with our actions later on. Mr. Wood goes on to explain why this is using 1 Kings 18 as today's text.

In his message on 10.17.08, CBU alumni and pastor of Canyon Ridge Christian Church in Las Vegas, Nevada, Mitch Harrison expands on the core concept of Ephesians 4:29; that being the edification and lifting up of individuals. This core value should be expressed by all, not only those at CBU, but also around the world.

In her message on 10.15.08, CBU's Director of International Service Projects, Kristen White, challenges CBU students to look outside of their comfort zone. This message serves as a reminder to all Christians that evangelism isn't just something to be done in our own backyard but also all around the world as we "reach out with purpose."

In his message on 10.08.08, CBU professor of Theology, Dr. Jeff Mooney, delivers an exhilarating sermon on the heart and nature of a Christian. This message skips amongst many different parts of Scripture to embody how a Christian in today's world should act towards one another and his/her enemies. With these actions in mind, Dr. Mooney explains just how a Christian should "serve with purpose."

In his message on 10.03.08, Cornerstone Fellowship Bible Church's pastor, Milton Vincent, delivers a message to the Cal Baptist student body that fully encompasses the Good News of the Gospel. This message demonstrates why humans are deserving of hell and why God, who's merciful, has given us a chance at redemption through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.

In his message on 9.24.08, CBU's Dean of Christian Ministries, Dr. Dan Wilson challenges students to strive for spiritual maturity by getting connected in/with the fellowship of believers. This message uses Acts 2 to demonstrate the cooperation and undertaking by new believers to "connect with purpose" and shows just how that principle is applicable to Christians today.

In his message on 9.17.08, CBU's Dean of Spiritual Life, John Montgomery challenges students to strive for spiritual maturity through worship. This message defines what true worship is, how/why God should be worshiped in this manner and just exactly what it means to "worship with purpose."

In his message on 9.10.08, "America's Pastor" Rick Warren kicked off "The Year of Purpose" by challenging the students of CBU to begin/continue living their purpose as God has sought fit for them do. This message truly hit home as Rick was warmly welcomed back to the university he once called home.
